If the lower control arms have to be taken off, the following procedure should be followed; the wheel lug nuts of the concerned side have to be loosened; the front part of the vehicle has to be raised; the vehicle has to be supported on jack stands; and the wheel has to be taken off. Separate the lower ball joint from the control arm and unbolt the nut on the lower part of the shock absorber fork linking it to the lower control arm. On models between 2001 and 2006, first unbolt the nuts on the end of the stabilizer bar link and then remove those on the control lower part of the control arm. As for models produced from 2001 to 2006, open the hood and unscrew the upper control arm mount bolts and then take out the control arm. This it quite the opposite of removal and entails tightening of the fasteners to the required torque and the addition of a new cotter pin. Before tightening the rear pivot bolt nut on models after 2006.5, lift the outer aspect of the control arm with a floor jack to get the standard height. It is a practice for some models to call for removal of stock cotter pins during assembling while the spring-steel lock pins if they are still functional can be reused. Last of all, refit the wheel and the lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and then tighten the lug nuts to the designated torque, then check and align front wheel if required.
