    How do you remove and install shift cables in a Kia Sorento? Posted by Customer

    Apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in Neutral, then unscrew and remove the shift lever knob. Next, remove the center console assembly. Use pliers to take out the pins from the ends of the shift cables and pull the cable housing retaining clips out of the shifter base. Locate the shift cables at the transaxle and remove their retaining clips, then pull the pins out of the transaxle ends of the shift cables. Feed the cables through the firewall grommet for removal, and check the end bushings for any signs of looseness or damage before replacing the cables. Installation is the reverse of removal.
