    Q:
How to replace the ignition coil in Kia Spectra? Posted by Customer
    A:
On the 1994 and 1995 models, start by taking off the ignition coil as well as measuring its resistance using an ohmmeter on the primary and secondary windings of the coil. Compare indicated resistance in each case with specified range; if it lies in this interval, then the coil is good, otherwise replace it. To do so, remove engine negative battery cable, primary voltage electrical connector and high-tension cable from ignition coil. Release ignition coil assembly and reinstall a new one following reverse removal steps. On 1996 to 1997 models, disconnect electrical connector from distributor and measure coil primary and secondary resistance values using an ohmmeter. Ascertain whether or not indicated resistance falls within predetermined range; if no change is observed then distributor has to be replaced. For 1998-2004 (excluding any 2.0L DOHC engines), begin by removing the ignition coil and measuring both primary and secondary resistance using an ohmmeter on it. In case the resistance ranges between recommended values, the coil is still functional but if not change to a new distributor.. To do so, take off ignition coil cover first of all before disconnecting electrical connector cable , spark-plug wire ,and mounting bolts from coils.Pull out the ingnition col straightly upward so that its contact with plug can be discontinued before replacing it with another coi.The plug hole must be positioned correctly in order for cleaning operations to work properly. For those vehicles produced since year 2004 that have got a 2.0L DOHC engines, separate negative battery cable lug connections then unplug ignitiion coils wire harness connectors along with spark plug wires.Remove the fasteners securing it down then pull out whole assembly containing all coils.Reverse installation sequence applies here.Detach spark plug cables and unplug ignitiion coils wire harness connectors ,then unbolt any mounting bolts for ignitiion col used on 2.7L V6 Sportage models. In reverse order, remove ignitiion coil and then install a new one in the same way.
