To ease the process of removing the steering column, it is good to park the vehicle with the wheels aligned and then disconnect the cable of the negative terminal on the battery. Succeeding this, take out the steering wheel and using the ignition key turn it to the LOCK position so that the steering shaft doesn't rotate, this is important since the expanded airbag could damage the clock spring if the steering shaft rotates. Next, those upper and lower covers of the steering column have to be released, the wiring disconnection followed by the removal of the multi-function switch. Next, take out the knee bolster and locate the position of the universal joint over the steering gear pinion shaft. Loosen the pinch bolt clamping the steering shaft to the joint, designate orientation points before separation, and then detach the steering column/shaft by unscrewing its fixings. To install, slide it in place the steering column, connect the intermediate shaft, and secure the connecting fasteners loosely. Tighten the column mounting fasteners to the set torque, fit the pinch bolt and tighten it to the correct torque and as with the previous steps, reverse the process.
