If the engine is overheating and the cooling fan is not coming on when the engine temperature rises to an excessive level, check the fan relays in the underhood fuse/relay box. If the relays are okay, check all wiring and connections to the fan motor. If no obvious problems are found, the problem could be the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Have the cooling fan system and circuit diagnosed by a dealer service department or repair shop with the proper diagnostic equipment. For replacement, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector(s). Remove the air inlet duct. On 2005 and earlier models, remove the hood latch. Note: On some models, it may be necessary to disconnect the electrical connector and harness from the horns. Drain the cooling system. Remove the fan control module fastener, then disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the module. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator. Remove the cooling fan shroud mounting bolts. Remove the cooling fan assembly by tilting it back and out of the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal. Place the fan assembly back into the retaining clips for the side and bottom.
