    Q:
How are the electrical circuits of a Kia Optima safeguarded and what should be considered when replacing fuses? Posted by Customer
    A:
The vehicle electrical circuits are protected by fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links, and the fuse boxes additional are located in the engine compartment and in the lower left part of the instrument panel as well as in the left part of the instrument panel for USA-specifications models since 2006.5. Every fuse serves a particular circuit, and one is easily able to know the circuit that is being protected by the fuse since it is written on the fuse panel cover. Miniature fuses are fitted in the fuse holders, and in case an electrical device refuses to work, then it is wise to check the fuses first. The best way to check the fuse is with a test light, to look for power at the ends of the terminals; if there is power on one side and none of the other, the fuse has popped, or can be easily recognized by lifting the bottom of the fuse as the element between the terminals melts when the fuse has been used. Another important factor that must be followed is that when replacing those that have been blown, one must make sure that they use the right fuse as physically, there are fuses of different ratings but the fuses to be placed in the circuit should be of adequate protection and should have the amperage value molded in the fuse body. If the fuse which has blown once is replaced and it blows out again instantly, it should not be replaced back until the cause of the problem which is usually a short circuit occasioned by failure of a wire or its deterioration is put into check. Fusible links are used on circuits that are not usually fused, for example the high current side of the charging or starting circuits. Inline fusible links that have a conspicuous swelling in the cable have been phased out in favor of cartridge-type fusible links which are large like cartridge-type fuses and are located in a fusible link block section in the compartment fuse/relay box. After pulling out the cable that was connected to the negative terminal of the battery, the fusible link can be directly removed and then replaced by a unit of the same amperage as the previous link.
