    Q:
What should you do if you are working on the 2008 Kia Optima when removing the water pump? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the timing belt if you are working on a four-cylinder model (2006 and earlier). It's also a good time to replace the timing belt if it's fairly old. Remove the water pump pulley using a strap wrench or pin spanner wrench to hold the pulley while you loosen the bolts. Remove the water pump fasteners. On four-cylinder engines, remove the alternator brace. Pry the water pump off. If necessary, tap the pump loose with a soft-face hammer.

    A:
If you suspect water pump leakage, remove the timing belt cover and use a flashlight to find the hole in the water pump by looking through the space behind the pulley, just below the water pump shaft.
