    Q:
How do you remove the ignition switch and key lock cylinder from the steering column on Kia Optima? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers. Take out the driver's knee bolster panel and the reinforcement plate behind it. The manufacturer recommends removing the steering column, but access to the ignition switch screws can be achieved by lowering the column without complete removal. Disconnect the wiring, remove the screws, and take out the ignition switch from the back of the assembly. Disconnect the wiring, remove the screw, and take off the key illumination ring from the Ignition Lock Cylinder. To remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder, insert the key and turn it to the on position. Use a small pointed tool to depress the lock, then pull the lock cylinder out. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Kia Sedona? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the ignition switch housing, one has to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and take out the upper and lower covers of the steering column. Here, slot the bolts on the shear-head bolts fixing the ignition switch housing to the steering column shaft or drill the bolt and evacuate them using a screw extractor. Once you take out the bolts, disconnect the electrical related to it and then take out the ignition switch housing. A new replacement ignition housing will come with new shear head bolts; just make sure that as you put the pieces together it slightly aligns before you tighten the supplied bolt and as it reaches that moment when the head of the bolt sticks out you reverse the process of removing the bolt in replacing one. For the Ignition Lock Cylinder, insert a small round tool into the release pin of the ignition switch housing, rotate the key from On to OFF with depressing the pin and pull the Ignition Lock Cylinder from the housing. Put in the new Ignition Lock Cylinder in the same housing and turn it from the off position to the on position to lock the retention pin. On the switch, you remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, and from below remove knee bolster around the steering wheel, and then remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Pull the tab on the small connector plug to remove the connector from the ignition switch, remove the small screw at the back of the ignition switch and take out the switch. As for reinstallation, it is best done in a reverse order to which the cables were removed.
