The turn signal switches, also known as combination switches or steering column switches, consist of two separate units connected to a central plastic housing that encircles the steering column. The left switch controls the headlights and turn signals, while the right switch manages the windshield washer and wiper system, with the option to replace either switch independently. To begin, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the steering wheel along with the upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch by unplugging the wiring; push the lock pin to release the headlight and turn signal switch, and another lock pin to release the windshield wiper switch from the steering column. After removing the switch, installation follows the reverse order of removal. If the clockspring has turned and is not centered, turn the hub in either direction until it stops without applying excessive force, then rotate the hub in the opposite direction, counting the turns to reach the opposite stop. Divide that number by two and turn the hub back approximately that many turns until the neutral position indicator aligns with its corresponding mark.
