- Q: How to Remove and Clean the Throttle Body on Kia Sportage?A:Start by removing the air intake duct resonator off all 1998 and newer Sportage vehicles. Loosen the wire locking rings on the connections to the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, then take off those connectors. Start by disconnecting the hose from the EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve into the throttle body. Pull the two coolant hoses attached to the throttle body's bottom off and loosen both spring clamps. Disconnect both hoses carefully while bracing for possible coolant leaks. Separate the Accelerator Cable from the throttle body, unscrew all bolts holding the throttle body, and pull it free from its place on the intake manifold. Drop the worn-out gasket from the connection between the throttle body and intake manifold. Also take care to wipe off any gasket material left behind from both mating surfaces. When you want, you can take the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve out of the throttle body. Wipe out the throttle valve area and the throat where it plows the intake air with carb cleaner to prepare the old throttle body for reuse. Avoid spraying any sensors or carb cleaner. You need to put the throttle body back on, sandwiched between new gaskets, and then bolt it tight by the original bolt specification. Make sure your engine is running before checking and adding coolant if needed. Next, adjust the gas pedal as required. Finally, test your car to ensure there are no leaks.
