    Q:
How do you replace the front crank seal and Crankshaft Pulley on Kia Spectra for four cylinder engine? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the front crank seal on engines other than the 2.0L DOHC the first step is to remove the negative terminal of the battery, and second remove the engine splash shield. Remove the right front wheel by unlatching all the lug nuts but one, lift the car on jack stands and fully unscrew the nut. Subsequently, take off the crankshaft pulley, timing belt covers, the timing belt, and the timing belt guide. Laying the vehicle on my side, I used a special sprocket removal puller to removal the crankshaft sprocket, then I trimmed the front oil seal lip using a razor knife. Observe the orientation of the oil seal and the status of the lip by pulling the lip back slightly and removing the lip with a screwdriver with its blade covered in rags to avoid scratching the crankshaft or the engine block. The bore and crankshaft surface should be clean, the outer section of the new oil seal should be covered by engine oil and lubricated on the lip portion. The oil seal must be professed in by hand, then by using a sealer driver or a socket it should be tapped into place with the oil pump body until it is flush and square with the body. Replace the crankshaft timing belt sprocket and the timing belt; then perform the assembly in the order opposite to the disassembly one. Last, turn on the engine while observing for oil drips on the ground centering at the front oil seal position. In reference to the 2.0 L DOHC engine, the timing belt cover, timing belt, and the crankshaft sprocket will have to be removed; the next procedure will involve looking at the depth the seal is recessed to before one manages to pry it out of the oil pump housing. Lubricate the inside of the new seal with clean engine oil or grease and using a socket or pipe, drive it into place with equal force to your original sealing ring and to the same depth. Re-also install crankshaft sprocket and timing belt and start the engine, looking out for oil leakage at the front seal.
