Align the wheels to straight ahead, take off the front wheel lug nuts and lift the car until the front is supported on jackstands. Take off the wheels and the protective pan under the car, then to free the bar, give it a shake by loosening the connected links. In 2005 and earlier models, unbolt and take out the front part of the exhaust pipe. Turn the steering wheel as far to the left and right as possible turn the wheel, lock it in this position and make a mark showing the relationship of the steering-shaft to steering-gear Next, loosen the nut that is at the top of the U-joint and using a puller remove the steering-shaft U-joint from the steering gear input shaft.
